There are so many wonderful opportunities for DIY baby things on Etsy. I just had to share! Every month, I will spotlight several Etsy shops selling baby patterns. This is going to be fun! So, without further ado, here is the first official monthly Etsy DIY Baby Spotlight!

Every baby girl will need lots of hats and shoes. Is it necessary?  Well, it depends upon whom you ask. If you ask a woman, the answer is definitely, "YES! Are you kidding?"  Some might ask, "Why?" Well, because every girl or woman needs a complete wardrobe for every occasion. And, of course, the absolute best reason is because they are just so cute! Who can resist?  See for yourself.

DIY Christmas Baby Toys From Etsy

I haven't been on Etsy long as a shop owner (Imagine That Baby), but I've quickly decided it's one of my very favorite places to be online. It only seemed natural to spotlight some of these shops during the Christmas season. Whether you need a pattern for your own baby or the baby of a friend, I think you'll find something special. I hope you'll check out the shops as well as the patterns on this blog. If I haven't found it here for you (imagine that!), you'll most likely find it there.

CANDY  Bear Knitting Pattern

CANDY bear is 15 inches tall. CANDY's jumper, dungarees, pull-on shoes and socks are removable. The skill level for this pattern is intermediate. The pattern is a PDF instant digital download. Wouldn't she be beautiful in a little girl's nursery or favorite huggable playmate? You can find CANDY and her friends at Susan's shop: Mary Jane's Tea Room.

Tim the Teddy Bear Security Blankie Crocheted Pattern

Babies and small children are known to form an attachment to either a blanket or a toy. This pattern includes both! The blanket is 15 inches square. The level for this crochet pattern is beginner. It is an instant download. You can find Tim and his buddies at Vivienne's shop, Peach Unicorn Crochet.

Lilly Blossom Baby Blocks Sewing Guide

Baby blocks are a classic baby toy. These blocks make a beautiful nursery display on shelving, too! Instructions for both a 4 inch size and a 5 inch size are included. Templates for letters, numbers and motifs are included. The skill level for this pattern is beginner. It is a downloadable PDF. You can find Lilly Blossom Baby Blocks Sewing Guide at Helen's shop, Lilly Blossom.

Baby Clutch Ball Crochet Pattern

Won't your baby have fun rolling, grasping and tossing these balls! But first, I'm sure baby will be admiring the colorful patterns. Very eye-catching! The balls are 15 inches in diameter. The skill level is easy (beginner). This is a downloadable PDF. You can find the Baby Clutch Ball Crochet Pattern at Kara's shop, Petals to Picots.

DIY Nursery Wall Decor 2

When I first began the search for creative nursery wall decor, I had no idea how many options there really were! I should have known better because there is no end to creativity. Just think of all the people in the world and the various cultures. Think about all kinds of crafting materials, both natural and man made. Think about the dreamers and the realists. Combine all of those elements and you, too, can believe in endless possibilities.

Here are some terrific ideas to inspire you as you plan your baby's nursery. Enjoy and also check out DIY Nursery Wall Decor, the original post.

Create Your Own Stamp
Personalized Stamped Lettering

Recycled cabinet door = nursery wall decor!
Chalkboard Birth Announcement
Announce your baby's birth with a favorite quote or poem! For added interest, vary your font freehand or with stencils. Another great idea from Amy at This Big Oak Tree

Arsty Baby DIY
Baby Pop Art
Babies love looking at faces, especially their own. Hang your prints over a crib or changing table where your baby can admire this very personal piece of art. Find more great ideas from Jeanne at Inspiring Ideas

Whimsical Farms Animals in Bright Designs
Barnyard Baby Quilts

These quilts were made from Moda fabric. Imagine one (or more) of the quilts hung for added wall interest. Functional wall art? You bet! Use one for baby's comfort and one for decor. Switch them out when one of the quilts  needs cleaning. Find more great ideas from Jo at Jo's Country Junction

DIY Nursery Wall Clock
DIY Fairy Nursery Wall Clock

Every baby needs a fairy to pass the time, right? Here's another great example of functional art. You could hang this whimsical fairy clock on a wall above a shelf so that she appears to be standing. Place a few toys (frogs, mushrooms, flowers, etc) nearby. OR, you could do a mural on the wall (freehand or store bought) and make the fairy clock a part of the scene as a 3D feature. Find more great ideas from Lindy at Cottage Hill

Baby's name gets the wow factor with innovative materials.
Baby Maddox's Nursery Art

Frame each letter of your baby's name. Give it a wow factor by using unique materials. This framed art can still be used long after your baby's nursery becomes a big boy or big girl bedroom. It may even inspire your child to create great works of his/her own. You can view the entire nursery, created by Erin, at Project Nursery.

Cookie Tin Nursery Art

This is an idea I wanted to share with you because it's novel and so easy! The next time, you are in the cookie aisle at your favorite bulk food store, office supply store or dollar store, look for the cookies in large tins. You might  be interested in the tins of popcorn, too. Now, this is the part where you have to be discriminating. You'll want tin covers that feature a scene or toy from childhood. Once you've found what you want, purchase it. Go home and eat all those cookies or popcorn and hang the lid in your baby's nursery!

DIY Nursery Furniture ~ Imagine That!

Congrats on your pregnancy! Furniture is the most outstanding feature in any room, including a nursery. So, naturally you'll want to add furniture pieces that reflect your style. But why DIY? Hmmmm....it's less costly. Got your attention now! AND, it is so much more personal because YOU put the work into creating it. Of course, you could build the furniture but that's not necessary. Go to an unfinished furniture store. Check yard sales and secondhand stores. Or, hey, just check around your house for furniture that could be repurposed. A note of caution: The crib is the one piece of furniture that I would not advise purchasing secondhand. There have been recent changes in crib safety standards. Just because it worked well for you as a child or for anyone else's child, doesn't mean it will be safe enough for your baby. Safety is one area that you don't want to go cheap on. Check out these examples to get psyched and ready to create something special in your baby's nursery.
